Summary
Do you really know your PE electrofusion welding machine?

We have recently received visiting clients and held in-depth communications with them.
We welded strictly in accordance with the parameters marked on the pipe fittings, but why do slurry spraying or insufficient welds always occur? We have machines from several brands, yet the welding results vary from one to another.
The ambient temperature is very suitable, ranging from 16℃ to 27℃. Could you help me solve this doubt?
As soon as I heard the client's confusion, some details came to my mind. While the client was having a meal, I prepared some tools.
1. Pipe fitting model 110, with parameters of 40V and 380S
2. Multimeter
3. Electrofusion Welding Machine FX40E
Connect all the pipe fittings and the machine. Finish parameter setup, and set the multimeter to power frequency alternating current.
Note: Our FX40E is a traditional transformer model that uses alternating current. If yours is an inverter model, you should select direct current on the multimeter.
| Machine Type | Input | Output | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Traditional transformer step-down type | AC 220V mains | Mains-frequency AC (low voltage) | Voltage is stepped down directly by a transformer to serve as the welding voltage; an older design |
| Modern IGBT inverter type | AC 220V mains | Low-voltage DC | Rectifies the mains AC → inverts → rectifies again, with regulated voltage and current for more precise control |
The operation is extremely simple: start the machine, and while it is powered on, touch the copper terminals on the machine with the probes of the multimeter. If the voltage reading on the multimeter matches the value displayed on the electrofusion machine, then welding according to the parameters will be fine as long as the ambient temperature is appropriate. If the reading on the multimeter is lower than that on the PE electrofusion welder, experience tells us that re-welding is required. Conversely, if the multimeter shows a higher value than the PE electrofusion welder, the workpiece will be burned through, so the voltage needs to be reduced. (All the above operations must be performed in manual mode.)
If you are welding in the barcode scanner gun mode, please first get familiar with your PE electrofusion welding machine.
All the above operations require proper waterproof and electric shock prevention measures. Safety comes first. Please strictly comply with this requirement.
